Nightmare #2

Cam didn't sleep great last night, so I was awake then asleep then awake then asleep, and we all know that tends to make for some pretty awesome dreams.  Here was last nights.

"Clinic" was in my parents house.  Other people in other rooms had dental chairs, but I was just using my parents bed.  I asked the TA to administer local anesthetic to my patient, but Camden was actually in my "chair", so she numbed the left side of Camden's mouth.  Then, a dentist that my Dad works with stopped breathing so me and a friend administered CPR and saved his life and something about a waterfall.  Then my patient . . . didn't come?  I can't remember, but I know I was frustrated.

I'll add more as I remember it, you know how dreams are.  Hard to put down on paper, because they are so complex.

P.S. I called my patient at 8:10am this morning to see if she was on her way for her 8:00am appt.  My call woke her up, at her house, in Tooele.  She jumped out of bed and is on her way.  Keep your fingers crossed.

UPDATE: Maybe this was more of a vision than a dream, because my patient basically didn't show up.  She was 2.25 hours late.  I got special permission to go late, and finished one quad.  Trying to look on the bright side.

I did LOVE discussing being on the brink of crying with a few DH friends today.  Thank you for letting me let it out without actually letting it out.  love you.

Scary

The hygiene nightmares have begun.

Last night it was me working with Vining as an assistant and Perry checking off everything I did.  Like boards.  I missed MASSIVE chunks of calculus on the facial surfaces of the canines, but I swore I had looked at them.

I know there will be more tonight, because I can hardly stop thinking of all the possibilities scheduling clinic until the end of the semester.

Please, let these weeks pass quickly.

No Use

Yesterday at 2:30pm, my patient told me he couldn't come tomorrow.  "Made other plans."  :)

Between then and this morning at 9:30am I called . . . literally . . . 14 people.  Nothing.

So I lifted my arms to heaven and said, oh well.

I was able to help Karlie record probe measurements, McCall with the Air/Powder Polisher, Maren with confirming, did an OD on Morgen Weeks (then Karlie can just scale him), did the Peer Calc Eval PE, and saw my CUTE little neighbor Brecklyn and her mom.  :)

Thank you to everyone (Stefanie and Kristie especially) who gave me patients to call.  I love you all.

Lucky #4

Patient 1 - Probable class II/III.  No show.  Talked to her last week.

Patient 2 - My wonderful mother.  I called her at 12:45, she was here by 1:30.  I took a FMX, with convention film, (call me crazy, because I am) = 26 PAs.

Patient 3 - My beautiful son.  18months.  Let me brush his teeth, liked the light and looking at himself in the mirror.  = 4Q Class IA (I think).

Patient 4 - Kristie's niece.  She was SO good, to let me do a sealant.

WOW.  Today was one of those crazy first day after a break days.

GOAL: Pray that my Wednesday patient is on time so I can FINISH him.  If it takes me 4 appts to do him, I may just have to ask for a max anterior injection just because I deserve the pain.

The Wrath

How can I say this in a nice way?  Maybe I can't.  Please don't leave clinic (even if it is 11:30) when at least 3 people still haven't even STARTED cleaning up their rooms.  Dirty instruments on trays.  Charts not completed.  Sealant material out. Everything left to be done.  Really?  Why would you just leave?  I love our class for the team effort we have, but today I wasn't feeling that so much.  Thank you x a million to Karlie W and Whitnee and Sarah and Tori  (and anyone else who stayed) who I know made a concerted effort to hang around until noon and help others.

Maybe I was so irritated by the lack of helping going on because I only got 1 quad done on my patient.  He was 30 minutes late and Kim Caldwell and I got mixed up on when walk-out was.  So yeah . . . I am mad at myself for not getting at least 2 done.  I am glad I passed off 2 PE's.  That can be my one shining light for today.

Thank you for all those who help clean my room and my instruments, I hope I can PAY IT FORWARD because we all know we have needed or will need help at some point.  Amen.

día de letra roja

(translation) A Red Letter Day

first spanish speaking patient
Removable Appliance PE
Blood Glucose Testing PE
2 Quads Class III
1PA
1PANO

I didn't pass with flying colors, got quite a few check marks that I deserved, but it is over and done with.

Goal:  Where to start?  Learn Spanish so I can communicate at a better level.

I am SO torn though because her husband wants to see me, and I don't know what class he is, and I don't know if I have time for him, and I don't want to turn him away based on my requirements.  Man I have a hard time with this "curriculum based" experience, I am so much more comfortable with a private practice patient based experience.  Some day I won't be constricted by the structure and requirements of school, and until then, hats off to my red letter day!

I'm On My Way

My track record isn't great with patients who tell me they are on their way.  Remember Gina Flores?  Yeah, she never showed up.  Let's pray that Irvin actually does, and is a class II.  Then I would be ok.

UPDATE: My patient showed up.  30 minutes late, but I LOVE him anyway.  I love him for his subgingival calculus.  Is that wrong?  Hello Class II patient.  I love you.  I loved his curiosity and questions.  I loved his desire to have better gums.  I love that he is willing to come back, if it means having healthy gums.

I don't love that it is going to take me 3 appointments to do a Class II.  he he, not sure I'll have enough time for that.  Dang you 1B's (just kidding family, I love you.)
