Glory Glory

I was finally able to see a different classification!  A class-V came in today.  It was great.  He was the perfect patient.  Interested.  Easy to work with.  I am not thinking very clearly right now, but it was a good day.  My only complaint is that my patient (just like Clark last time) has massive buccinators.  It is just SUPER hard to see the distal of the posterior teeth.  Also, he had a way muscly face.  Muscly tongue.  Muscly hypoglossal muscles.  Muscly MUSCLY sternocleidomastoid.  It was crazy.  He was a way cute 26 year old going into social work, if any of you single gals want me to set you up on a a blind date.  :)

Goal:  Notice, measure and record recession!

"Hail the Conquering Hero" -The Genie from Aladdin

What a day what a day.

Patient showed up.  Goal accomplished.

My Bro ho (brother) sacrificed his sleep this morning to come see me.  It was so fun.  I am sad it is over and will never happen again.  (He goes on a mission this summer and by the time he's home I'll be graduated! So we'll never have 3 full hours to mess around during a dental cleaning again.)  His mouth is a fine specimen, and he doesn't even floss.  (Clark, you still need to floss though.)

Then I had lunch.

Then I had CA.  I was late (only 10 minutes early instead of 15 minutes early, it depends on which paper you read as to if I was really "late" or not, but NS said I was late.)  Let me tell you I worked hard that whole time and got out on time.  Only to find out that I had locked the car keys and the spare key in the car that morning so Chris couldn't come get me.  My phone was dead.  I asked Prof Costley if she could take me home.  She very kindly obliged.  What a life saver.

Goal: Get some peeps for Wednesday mornings.  My Mondays are pretty full, but Wednesday mornings are nilch.

Goal:  Pass off some freaking PE's.

Goal: Find out how to schedule patients when I got a 1B done in one morning appt.  Should I start doing 2 half patients in one day?  Or just take longer because I am going to start passing off PE's?

hmmmm

Pt dot is still red.  Not yellow.  She said she was on her way.  How long do I wait before I call her again?  She said she was coming.  hmmm.

UPDATE: Pt. never came.  I filed lots of charts.  (If anyone is looking for an Eagle Scout Project, re-filing the charts in the CORRECT order would be a goodie.) Helped with pribe recording.  Cleaned up my entire pods rooms.  What else?  Karen got me a patient for next week.  :)  Aidos Amigos.

Goal: Have a patient come next time.

F to the Loss

Toss the Floss friends.  Need I say more?  It was a BLAST!  Oh drat, that reminds me I need to get my little book signed for a SADHA activitay.  The only thing that could have made this even better, would be Karlie Willard doing a back flip and showing up the JW Cheerleaders, but she is too nice for that.

Better

Today was better.  No x-rays made that easier though.

Looked up a new medication.  Scaled like the devil.  Had a lot of errors.  Need to be more thorough in checking for errors myself! Need a more systematic way of cleaning teeth.

Goal: Have a fun Holiday on Monday.  :)  But really.  Take awesome x-rays on Wednesday (assuming my pt needs them.)

Don't Suck.

Goal: Don't suck as bad as you did today. Ever Again.

Things to work on:

Set up x-ray room before taking patient back.
Don't use Schick on a small mouthed person.
Don't switch to size #1 sensor for BWX.
Barrier the doorknob.
Barrier the exposure button.
Make sure pt is wearing safety glasses in x-ray.
Keep thyroid collar against the neck.
Try not to cross-contaminate.
Tell pt's before they come how long they'll have to be here.
Be THOROUGH in OD.
Note overjets.
Have good posture.
Use a positioner for BWX (sorry, I just can't eyeball it.)
Record probe depths 2 teeth at a time.  You can't remember more than that, no matter what you think at the time.
Be thankful your patient showed up and was nice.
Be thankful J. Vining didn't fail you multiple times today.
Be thankful you got this suck-fest over with at the first of the semester.
Bring books and toys for pt's 5 year old for next appt.
Tx Record is everything you are going to do, not just what you did today.
Don't be in a hurry.

Goal for next time:  Don't suck so bad.

For Jennifer Brooke Baker

I have not felt a strong pull toward blogging ever since Prof Costley posted this little puppy in the 2216 Syllabus.

A suggested format for blog entries is:
Identify a goal for the day in clinic.
List strategies for achieving that goal.
Evaluate the degree to which the goal was accomplished.
Express feelings about the outcome of the day.

DULLSVILLE!  (no offense SC)

So . . . I am hoping the desire to be creative and share my thoughts with all y'all will return.  In the meanwhile, here is my dullsville post.

Mondee:  Good to be back.  I wish we would have had a practice set-up and practice OD and practice scaling day, because Wednesday came up super fast!

Wednesdee: I finished my wonderful mother.  full mouth hand scaled, tb/tp/df polish and fl varnish.  Not so bad.  I am tx a stranger danger on Monday and am excited for that to be under my belt.

TTFN.  Thanks Brookie for the prompt.  I hope it was all you wanted it to be.  :)
